8SIX8 was founded in 2012 by Karl Henderson after he left the company which was the first in the industry to provide do-it-yourself mobile application development for iOS, Android, and BlackBerry. After working on development projects for Fortune 100 companies, international celebrities, and professional sports teams, he decided to form his own agency to provide a more “custom” development solution. 8SIX8 quickly grew to a small team of young, energetic designers and developers enthusiastic about all things tech and especially mobile.

With the introduction of the iTunes App store in 2008, mobile developers finally had a unified platform they could use to distribute their apps. There was an immediate clamor to make apps for the iPhone but with that gold rush, app development could take months and cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. Eventually DIY platforms emerged where clients could use web based content management systems to quickly create their own apps and at a fraction of the cost. The founder of 8SIX8 worked for one of those pioneering DIY firms helping to grow it to a multinational success. During his time there he was put off when they turned away clients requiring custom development work. He decided that rather than sending away clients, he would provide an avenue for them to have custom mobile apps developed cost-effectively. 8SIX8 offers white-glove mobile application, mobile web, and website development to clients around the world
